Lymphedema

What is it?

Lymphedema is a chronic swelling due to inadequate fluid drainage from the lymph system. You are at risk for this if you have had lymphnodes removed or radiation treatment following Breast Cancer or other cancers such as Pelvic tumors. One study reported that as many as 75% of patients after breast cancer have chronic pain up to 3 years after treatment. Lymphedema may be one of these reasons.

Signs and Symptoms

Symptoms vary but may include pain and fullness in the chest wall or breast, arms, and legs depending on the area of involvement.
